The Korea Institute of Public Affairs was established in 1959 in tandem with opening of the GSPA. Since then, the institute has conducted empirical research in various fields including national administration and public policy, and it also publishes academic journals, including the Korean Journal of Policy Studies, published in English, and the Korean Journal of Public Administration, published in Korean. Both journals are issued four times a year.

Center for Government Competitiveness
Establishment in 2011, the Center for Government Competitiveness has developed the concept and related indicators of government competitiveness with the aim of measuring national competitiveness and prescribing policy alternatives to improve government competitiveness. The center is supported by Social Science Korea program of the Korea Research Foundation. In 2011 the center was selected as a small-scale government project; in 2014 it was extended to a medium-sized project; and in 2017 it became a large-scale government project.

Center of Intelligent Society and Policy
The vision of Center of Intelligent Society and Policy is to become a world-class research center that outlines the role of the public sector in intelligent society and that leads knowledge in the field. The center aims to enhance the autonomy of social science research by helping creative next-generation scholars promote interdisciplinary research and by establishing field-based studies. The center also seeks to support the government by advising it on policies and by helping to advance the public sector in the era of intelligent society. In addition, the center works to report its research results and share knowledge with the world.

Community Well-being Research Center
The Community Well-Being Research Center was founded in September 2011 as part of a research project funded by the Social Science Korea program. The center works to improve communities’ well-being through its innovative research on the concept of community well-being and its development of a community well-being index and to make its research globally available. The center recognizes the importance of multidisciplinary research as well as cross-cultural collaborations in making research widely accessible, and so it serves as a global hub for collaboration and networking among community well-being scholars, practitioners, and citizens.
